WHAT IS A REGENT
Similar to a corporate board of directors, our Board of Regents governs the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). It provides educational opportunities to more than 107,000 students.
Elected to serve a six-year term, the 13 Regents set policies and approve budgets (over $1b in taxpayer dollars) for Nevada’s entire public system of higher education. The Board of Regents also serves the state by hiring and firing the system chancellor, and all eight institution presidents.
Regents are the fiduciaries of our colleges and universities. They are responsible for overseeing the mission, strategic planning, educational quality, and fiscal integrity of the system.
